It is what it is

But what even is it?

Using watercolour, oil pastels,  pen, and stencils, this layered collage explores objects that are commonly considered weapons to challenge dominant narratives about how humans have evolved over time.

This creative process challenges students to think about common sense assumptions and create an artwork that focuses on shape, colour, and line rather than representation.

Abstract Woodbridge

Can you see the buried treasure?

The Woodbridge project explores the history of Woodbridge. Students create a layered abstract painting with each layer representing a different period of Woodbridge's past.

This project starts in the 6th century with buried Anglo-Saxon treasure and journeys all the way through to the 18th and 19th centuries when Woodbridge was a ship-building and industrial centre.

Are we alone?

This project explores the story of the alleged UFO sighting in Rendlesham Forrest in 1980 by US Army personnel.

A combination of painting and collage, students’ images will reflect what they think was in the woods that night back in 1980.

Focusing on an unsolved mystery in from the past, this session explores how and why narratives form beyond ‘hard facts’.

Who was Mary, Queen of Scots

Martyr? Murderer?

Mary, Queen of Scots is somewhat of an enigma. Her story is both well-known and entirely unknown. She is a figure of popular history, but what was she really like?

A layered abstract painting working with a specific palette connected to the different parts of Mary, Queen of Scots' life, this painting builds a picture of the Scottish Queen where students decide which layers are more important and how they should interact.
